The Asian Poker Tour (APT) 2011
As far as major poker tournaments go, the Asian Poker Tour (APT) is big business. These highly ranked poker tournaments compare to the likes of the WSOP, the WSOPE and the WPT. The only difference being that the APT focuses exclusively on Asia. There are multiple Main Events showcased by the APT including the likes of smaller scale poker competitions. In fact it has been recognized that the APT is Asia’s most successful poker tour.
Turning Back the Hands of Time on the APT
Back in November 2006, the first Asian Poker Tour event was held. Singapore hosted this illustrious contest and at the time it was none other than the inimitable Tony G who won the contest. The steady growth of the Asian Poker Tour (APT) has resulted in it being acquired by AsianLogic and continuing its growth ever since. The net result of all this poker activity is that the APT is now the most hotly contest series of tournaments in Asia. Poker aficionados from all over the world regularly participate in this stellar contest.
APT Winners in the Lead Up to 2011
The Philippines and Macau will showcase this year’s prestigious APT contest. Reflections of the APT over the years show that Aussie poker ace David Saab won the APT Philippines in 2008 with $280,000. Yevgeniy Timoshenko won the APT Macau in the same year, netting $500,000. In 2009 the APT Philippines was won by Neil Arce ($185,000) and the APT Macau was nailed by Frenchman Adrien Allain with a whopping $3,035,000.
Last year, in 2010, it was Michael Cua who won the APT Philippines and $172,200 and China’s Zhang Dan Peng won the 2010 APT Macau Main Event and $215,000. The 2011 APT Asian Series features as a lead-up to the APT. Buy-ins are much lower too. Andreas Lindblom (PHP 1,875,300) from Sweden won the APT Asian Series Cebu. The APT Philippines was won by Filipino poker ace Enrique Del Prado, Junior with $179,260.
